An Ocean So Deep

Your love filled the spaces

between our touch;

Your kindness poured over me

with every passing brush.

I have never known a being

I cared for so much;

The void of your passing

has silenced that hush.

I think of you now

as I drift off to sleep;

There were so many promises

I said I would keep.

For one, I would have snuggled you

when the night was still deep;

And two, I’d have comforted you

when some loss made you weep.

But now it’s my turn to return what you gave

And send you off to your temporary grave

And guard you

And protect you

And let your spirit soar on love’s ocean wave!
