Wish I Could Have Done More

A pet loss poem to heal your aching heart

Wish I Could Have Done More

You asked for nearly nothing

But some sweet kisses in return

And yet you lay there suffering,

While my face tears slowly burn.

The cancer now has ebbed your life,

There’s nothing more we can do,

I wish I could take away all of your strife

And heal you through and through.

But now’s the time you must move along

And leave me here to weep,

Let me just hold you one more time

As I lay you down to sleep.
